Assassin’s Creed Odyssey trailer out, game to release on October 5th

Assassin's Creed Odyssey trailer

Ubisoft has pulled a fast one on fans of its most popular franchise, with the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey trailer at E3 2018. The video shows spectacular footage from the game.

Odyssey is set in Ancient Greece, but you are no gladiator. You play as a mercenary who rises to legendary fame. There is a medusa in the screenshot, so we could expect more mythical Greek monsters. Wait a second, where’s the Assassin costume? That doesn’t really sound like an Assassin’s Creed game at all, does it?

In fact, you won’t find anything similar to the franchise in that clip. The Assassin’s Creed Odyssey trailer shows our hero clad in Greek armour, complete with the plumed helmet. There were some cool action sequences, but there is little else to spot. There are “relationships” in the game, which defines the decisions you make in the game. The game will take place on both land and sea.

Odyssey will be similar to Origins in that your hero has a skill tree, special abilities, and you can customize your equipment in the game, and even customize your ship.

The system requirements for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey have not been announced yet. But the Steam listing suggests there are in-App Purchases for the game. This is never a good idea, especially for a singleplayer game, but the reference is possibly related to the temporary boosts that are available in the Ultimate Edition.
