The Hollow Knight Gods and Glory free Update will be released next month, the game’s developer Team Cherry has announced today. This will be the final DLC for the game.
Hollow Knight was originally released in February, 2017 and drew instant praise for its metroidvania gameplay style. The game became even more popular when the developers began releasing DLCs for free. And these weren’t cosmetic or optional stuff, the DLCs were actual content packs. Each DLC added new enemies, quests, etc.
The Hollow Knight Gods and Glory free Update is the 4th free DLC update for the game, after Hidden Dreams, The Grimm Troupe and Lifeblood. What was even more pleasantly shocking, was the fact that the price of the game was never raised by the studio, even after several free content updates.
And Hollow Knight was on sale frequently for a discounted price to welcome new players. In a world where the majority of studios leech the player’s money with paid DLCs, this was a very welcome surprise. The only exception would be the free remastered versions which THQ Nordic gives for owners of previous versions of some games.
The Hollow Knight Gods and Glory free Update will, by the developer’s own words, be the largest pack for the game yet. It will contain new bosses, new music. new NPCs and of course new quests.
The Hollow Knight Gods and Glory free Update will be available on August 23rd on PC and Nintendo Switch. So, Steam and GOG users who have the game can look out for the free update to be available on the same day.
Fun fact: Hollow Knight has been on sale for 34% off of the regular price, every time the game received a new major update. So, we can probably expect a similar sale on August 23rd too, when the Hollow Knight Gods and Glory free Update is available.
It is a shame to see that we will no longer receive future DLCs after the Hollow Knight Gods and Glory free update, but perhaps the studio will have a change of heart, or maybe return with a sequel.
