Elder Scrolls VI official trailer released, here’s our speculation about the game

Elder Scrolls VI Official Trailer

The Elder Scrolls VI official trailer has been released, after a surprise announcement was made by Bethesda, at E3 2018. The successor to 2011’s Elder Scrolls V Skyrim, has long been asked for by fans.

First of all, there is no other information, other than Todd Howard’s official statement that Elder Scrolls VI is in the works.

So, here’s our speculation about the game. The teaser video has almost no information, except that it features a rocky mountain landscape. If you are an Elder Scrolls fan, you should have gotten the clue. Will the game’s name be Elder Scrolls VI High Rock?

Why do we say that?

Elder Scrolls games have traditionally been named after the land featured in the game. Though the games all take place in the fictional continent of Tamriel, each game focuses on one region,  as is evidenced by the former games.

Tamriel provinces and governing races:

  • Black Marsh – Argonians
  • Cyrodiil – Imperials
  • Elsweyr – Khajiit
  • Hammerfell – Redguards
  • High Rock – Bretons
  • Morrowind – Dunmer
  • Orsinium – Orc (located in the mountains of High Rock)
  • Skyrim – Nords
  • Summerset Isle – Altmer
  • Valenwood – Bosmer

Based on this list and the landscape in the video, you can easily guess which province could be featured in, High Rock. There is just one issue though. High Rock was already featured in Daggerfall. There is no rule for a return to the location though, especially considering that Daggerfall was a DOS game.

Here’s a list of the various Elder Scrolls locations (major games only)

  • Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall – High Rock and Hammerfell
  • Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind – Morrowind
  • Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion – Cyrodill
  • Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Skyrim

That still leaves a debut in the future of Black Marsh, Elsweyr, Summerset Isle and Valenwood. However, none of these have the landscapes in the video Calenwood is a forest area (Wood Elves), Summerset Isle is an archipelago (it does have mountains),  Black Marsh is a swampland, and Elsweyr is a dry badlands.

So, the place seen in the Elder Scrolls VI official trailer must be High Rock’s mountains, right? Also, the coastline seen in the video could be the Iliac Bay. And considering that Hammerfell is adjacent to High Rock, we think it could be included in the game too.

When will Elder Scrolls VI be released?

Bethesda began work on Skyrim sometime in 2008, and the game was released in 2011. The company has had 7 years since then, for a successor. But we should consider the other games which the company had been working on since. The studio has released several games in various franchises including the Dishonored, Wolfenstein, Doom, The Evil Within, Fallout, Prey series. And of course, there have been VR versions and remasters of some games.

Bethesda is working on a new sci-fi RPG called, Starfield. Reports suggest this was a 2013 project Bethesda. The game is expected to be released before Elder Scrolls VI.

But, given how Fallout 4 was announced in June 2015 and released in November 2015, we think Elder Scrolls VI will be released sometime in 2018 or maybe in 2019, depending on their commitment to Starfield.
