Google Home and Home Mini launched in India, priced at Rs. 9,999 and Rs. 4,499

Google Home India

The Google Home and the Google Home Mini have been launched in India. This makes the previous report which predicted the same, a real deal.

The speakers come with a free 6 month subscription for Google Play Music, Gaana and Saavn.The Google Home and Home Mini can be used for listening to music, but since it is a smart speaker, you can use voice commands for various purposes.

The devices are powered by the Google Assistant, which responds to keywords like “Ok Google” or “Hey Google”, followed by a command. This can be a simple search on the internet, cricket scores, listen to the news get recipes, etc. You can also use it with your phone by asking the speaker to get the quickest route from a location to a destination (for e.g. Home to Office), and ask the Assistant to send it to your phone (using Google Maps).

Google Home Mini India

The top of the Google Home speakers has a touch control system which can be used for for invoking the Google Assistant, or for adjusting the volume and the playback. There are 4 LED lights on the top of the speakers tell you when the device is listening to you. The Google Home speakers have Voice Match technology to differentiate between voices, and far-field voice recognition thanks to the two mics.

The smart speakers are compatible with Chromecast, and other smart devices from Philips Hie, TP-Link, D0Link, etc. and you can use them to listen to YouTube and even Netflix.

The Google Home India price is Rs. 9,999 (about $153), which is significantly higher than the price tag of $129 which it retails for in the U.S. The Google Home Mini India price is Rs. 4,499 ($68) is also very high, compared to the $49, the cost it is being sold for in the U.S.

The Google Home will be available in the Chalk colour, while the Google Home Mini will be available in Chalk and Charcoal, and a Coral version coming soon.
