The Nokia 3 Android Oreo Update has been released today. HMD Global’s CPO Juho Sarvikas, announced the news on Twitter.
In case you didn’t know, the Nokia 3 is an entry level phone, which is powered by a MediaTek MTK 6737 processor. Yes, a MediaTek powered low-end phone has actually been updated to a new Android version. That is incredible indeed, kudos Nokia.

This stands out among a crowd of other devices, which haven’t been updated, and perhaps won’t ever be, because the manufacturer doesn’t want to spend resources on such budget devices. That being said almost no OEM including Samsung, LG do not update their mid-range devices at all. The most notable examples related to the Nokia 3, will of course be Motorola’s Moto E4, Moto C, because they have the exact same chipset as the Nokia 3.
The phone which was released over a year ago, joins Nokia’s other Android devices, all of which have been updated to Oreo, which is also rare for an Android OEM. It is worth noting that this device did not launch with Treble, so Nokia must have worked with MediaTek, to make the update possible.
If you have not received the Nokia 3 Android Oreo Update notification yet, wait for a few days for the OTA update to reach your device.
